HOW TO USE THE BOOTLE BLUEPRINT VAULT (BY LEVEL)

120+ ENTRIES | 1% BETTER AFTER EVERY LESSON

SEE THE GAME ON A DEEPER LEVEL / BECOME A BETTER PLAYER

THE BOOTLE BLUEPRINT VAULT

The Bootle Blueprint Vault is a complete defensive back operating system built for players, coaches, parents, and anyone who wants to understand the position with real clarity, detail, and depth.

It was created for:

• players who are serious about growth
• inquisitive athletes who want to understand football beyond surface-level instruction
• versatile defensive backs who want to expand their game
• players and families navigating recruiting and career decisions
• coaches who want to teach the position at a higher level
• coaches who want to stretch and sharpen their own football thought process
• parents who want to better understand what development should look like
• football lovers who simply want comprehensive knowledge of the position

Inside, you will find structured teaching on technique, movement, coverage, football IQ, film study, defensive philosophy, and career navigation. Most entries include review questions to deepen understanding and create reflection, and the majority of the Vault is paired with video teaching. Some entries are supported by text and graphics, while others are presented through text alone.

This Vault is designed to be studied, revisited, and applied over time. Whether you are learning something for the first time, sharpening a weakness, or refreshing a concept you already know, the goal is the same: to help you think clearer, move cleaner, and understand the position more completely.

AFTER EVERY ENTRY YOU WILL BE 1% BETTER. WITH OVER 100+ ENTRIES THERE IS SOMETHING IN HERE FOR EVERYBODY.

If you ever need more help beyond the Vault whether that is football, film, chalk talk, recruiting, development, or even guidance along the journey. I’m available. Find a time that works for you on the calendar, and we can get to work.

The Bootle Blueprint Vault is not organized by age or rank.

It’s organized by how the game actually works.

That means the same concepts apply at every level of football but the way you understand and apply them should evolve as you grow. This page explains how to use the Vault based on where you are right now.

THE CORE IDEA

Every Vault entry teaches one football truth.

That truth:

  • applies to youth players

  • scales to high school

  • becomes situational at the college level

  • and is evaluated differently by coaches

You need the right lens to help you grasp the overall picture of football around you. Welcome to the Vault.

YOUTH PLAYERS (FOUNDATIONAL AWARENESS)

Focus: Understanding responsibility and structure
Goal: Build habits, not highlights

If you’re a youth player, the Vault is here to help you:

  • understand where you’re supposed to line up

  • know which side you’re protecting

  • learn why coaches emphasize discipline

  • stop chasing plays that aren’t yours

How to Use the Vault

  • Start with Defensive Philosophy and Pre-Snap IQ

  • Read slowly don’t rush the videos

  • Focus on rules, not exceptions

  • Use the Player discussion questions to reflect on your reps

What Success Looks Like

  • You line up correctly

  • You stay on your leverage

  • You trust the call

  • You don’t panic when the ball doesn’t come your way

At this stage, football is about learning guardrails.

Advance to deeper concepts as you learn.

HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS (RULE APPLICATION)

Focus: Accountability and execution
Goal: Apply rules consistently under pressure

If you’re a high school player, the Vault is here to help you:

  • understand why mistakes lead to explosives

  • connect alignment, leverage, and eyes

  • play football technique and positional demands correctly

  • earn trust from coaches

How to Use the Vault

  • Follow entries in order when possible

  • Pay attention to why your reps fail, not just what happened, then come to the vault and learn

  • Learn how leverage and eyes work together, get a deeper understanding to make more plays

  • Use discussion prompts to analyze real game situations

What Success Looks Like

  • Fewer mental errors

  • Better game awareness

  • Cleaner film even without mention of stats

  • Increased trust from coaches

At this stage, football is about shared responsibility.

COLLEGE & BEYOND (SITUATIONAL MASTERY)

Focus: Context, timing, and intent
Goal: Survive and thrive under pressure

If you’re a college or advanced player, the Vault is here to help you:

  • understand why you might be a step behind (and what is happening around you)

  • manage leverage by situation

  • see the game before it happens

  • eliminate self-inflicted errors by technique

How to Use the Vault

  • Jump between pillars based on current challenges

  • Revisit technical and teaching entries weekly

  • Study how the processes of technique and tools show up on film

  • Use the discussion board to pressure-test your thinking

What Success Looks Like

  • You look calm in chaotic moments

  • You play faster without guessing

  • You eliminate critical mistakes

  • You’re trusted in red zone, third down, and end-of-game situations

At this stage, football is about decision-making under stress.

COACHES (TEACHING & EVALUATION)

Focus: Teaching clarity and diagnostic evaluation
Goal: Develop reliable players

If you’re a coach, the Vault is here to help you:

  • teach concepts without overloading players

  • identify why breakdowns occur

  • separate effort mistakes from understanding mistakes

  • translate a shared language to your DB room, help frame what is expected of them

How to Use the Vault

  • Use entries as teaching references

  • Compare Player and Coach discussion responses

  • Identify patterns in leverage, eyes, and alignment mistakes

  • Emphasize progression, not perfection

What Success Looks Like

  • Fewer repeated mistakes

  • Clearer communication

  • Players who understand why, not just what

  • Trust built through discipline

At this level, football is about development and evaluation.

HOW THE VAULT IS MEANT TO BE USED

This is not a feed.
It’s not meant to be consumed once.

The Vault is:

  • a reference

  • a study tool

  • a thinking environment

Some entries will make sense immediately.
Others will make sense later.

That’s by design.

The Role of the Discussion Board (Important)

The discussion board is not an add-on.
It’s a core part of how this Vault works.

This is where:

  • players reflect on real reps

  • coaches share perspective

  • parents ask questions without noise or judgment

Your questions, observations, and experiences help shape your understanding of the game.

I actively pay attention to the discussions.
When themes, questions, or patterns emerge, I use them to:

  • create new ways I can better help the audience

  • expand on existing concepts

This is how the Vault grows with you.

Going Deeper, Together

If something in the Vault sparks a question, confusion, or curiosity lean into it.

You’re encouraged to:

  • ask questions in the discussion board

  • challenge your understanding

  • bring real situations you’re dealing with

And if you ever want to talk something through one-on-one, virtual coaching is always available!

That space is open for:

  • football questions

  • development decisions

  • recruiting concerns

  • position fit

  • confidence, mindset, or clarity

  • etc.

Nothing is off-limits.

If it crosses your mind, we can talk about it.

A FINAL NOTE

If you’re feeling challenged, confused, or uncomfortable at times... that’s a good sign.

Understanding football deeply requires patience, honesty, and discipline. The Vault is here to guide that process, not rush it.

The game isn’t complicated.
It just demands the right level of understanding at the right time.

What you may not understand today, you might grasp at the highest level tomorrow. That's why we just keep on showing up. Welcome to the Bootle Blueprint Vault.
